SWOOP

“a trusted friend that cares about helping people and making a difference in the world”

July 2023 2-3 Week Feature Improvement Project

My Role Lead Designer and Researcher

Project Overview

Swoop is an event app that helps user go out and meet more people with ease.

Problem Statement

Increase the conversion of accepted invites to event attendees

  • User may not be receiving notifications about upcoming events

  • Possible users may need an incentive to go to events

Business Problem Statement

Project Timeline and Goals

By employing the double diamond method, I effectively tracked my project's progress and milestones, maintaining a clear understanding of where I stood in achieving my goals.

Goals:

  • Incentivizes users to register for events while being cost-effective for the company

  • Find effective communication methods to tell users about upcoming events

I interviewed 3 people between the ages of 20-55 who best fit Swoop’s intended target audience (ages 30-55, men and women, comfortable phones and desktops, middle class, and/or recently moved to the city)

Prototyping

Prototyping Results

I selected 3 individuals to do to an in-person wireframe of SWOOP. Through this prototyping session, the participants identified these major problems:

  • Screens need to be more cohesive and aligned

  • Group chats are not functional for big events; should be forum based

  • The registration page should reiterate the event, so users know exactly what they are signing up for

  • Looking for events should be more clear than sporadic

Lo-fi Prototypes

Lo-fi Results

Similar to wireframing, I chose 3 more individuals to test the prototype. This time the major issues were resolved and minor issues surfaced:

  • Would like to see the differentiation of street parking or free parking to an event

  • Someway to see if an event is kid-friendly or dog-friendly

  • Fonts are small unreadable

Key Learnings and Next Steps

Through this process, I found out that users need more of a drive to go to events beyond having fun, there is almost a need for purpose to be fulfilled. Like, supporting local businesses or finding deeper connections within communities. I also found that the way users are receiving notifications is not the main issue. A lot of users within this age range have a tentative calendar they stick to, so looking for and going to events is more intention-driven and more planning.

The next steps I have for this project are:

  • Implement a badge system, so users can receive a digital token for the types of events they go to

  • Implement a forum page for the group chat for bigger events so users can have a cleaner experience

  • Create public profiles so users can see clearly who they are inviting to events or wanting to connect further in group chats
